Hartenbosstrand (or Hartenbos Beach in English), is a Blue Flag beach located in the coastal town of Hartenbos, in the Western Cape. The town of Hartenbos is located on the world famous Garden Route between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. It lies approximately 8 kilometres from Mossel Bay and 40 kilometres from the George Airport.

The beach stretches for 6 kilometres, providing an opportunity for a challenging walk which is not too strenuous. It has 2 designated swimming areas making it popular during the summer, and is very family friendly. This, naturally, makes it a favourite amongst young families. Surfers are not a rare site at this white-washed beach with its Mediterranean climate and calm waters.

The beach is a great site for bird watching due to the Hartenbos River mouth, which is an active breeding ground for sea birds. Should you grow tired of the bird watching, there is also whale watching, dolphin watching and seal watching to keep you occupied.

The town, which is especially popular with the Afrikaans community, really comes into its own during the summer school-holiday period. Between the months of December and February, the beachfront restaurants, shops, swimming pool and the beach itself throng with people, providing a buzzing holiday atmosphere.

One of the reasons that Hartenbos Beach is so popular is because of the wide range of bonus activities nearby. Apart from those already mentioned, there are also tennis courts, super tubes, bowling greens and a spacious parking lot right on the beachfront.
