The Hillcrest Berry Orchard is more than just a restaurant, it is an institution that promotes an organic, farm-based lifestyle. Situated on the Banhoek Valley near to Stellenbosch, the restaurant provides a spectacular backdrop of the imposing mountain ranges of Drakenstein and Jonkershoek.
During the hot summers, diners can sit at the outside terrace under the cooling shade of towering oaks. The terrace does not only provide you with a mountainous backdrop, but also views of the orchards and blossoming rose bushes. During the chillier months, customers can take refuge in the cottage-style interior. Warm up by the roaring fireplace and enjoy a hot bowl of vegetable soup.
Food made at Hillcrest Berry Orchard is artfully prepared and simple by design, using the freshest ingredients. Meals on the menu and weekly specials are updated according to the changing of the season.
Locals are known to enjoy a lazy Sunday morning breakfast or tea here, while for travellers it makes an incredible pit stop on route to other destinations in the Western Cape. While they are known for their wholesome menu of innovative breakfasts, lunches and specialised high teas, their biggest claim to fames are their farm shop and their deli. If you’ve enjoyed the smother of strawberry jam on your scone or that tasty sauce basted on your burger, chances are that you can take it home with you too.
The deli and farm stall sell everything from fresh and frozen berries to homemade jams and artisan breads. Berries can be purchased in bulk, at 1kg a bag, and is sold to customers at the wholesale price. Other wares that can be bought include their region-famous jams coming in a variety of different flavours, straight-from-the-farm honey and preserves, oven-fresh bread and bread mixtures.
