Accommodation near Mapungubwe National Park - 2

Mapungubwe is a national park and World Heritage Site in the far north of South Africa. It is located in the province of Limpopo, on the border with Zimbabwe and Botswana and forms part of the Limpopo-Shashe Transfrontier Conservation Area. It is a popular spot for two groups of tourists – those who are keen to experience an African safari and the animals which are so intricately tied to the world’s image of Africa, and those who are fascinated by the continent’s history. It is a place for experiencing the best of what rural Africa has to offer and the photo opportunities in this beautiful setting are seemingly endless.

The reserve is located in a region with a lot of biodiversity and encompasses numerous vegetation types, from mopane woodlands and riverine forests to giant baobab trees. This is all set against towering sandstone formations which look over all life below, which includes numerous mammalian species, including the big 5 – lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo, and 400 bird species, like the Kori Bustard and rare Pel’s fishing owl.

Mapungubwe Hill is an important attraction within the reserve, showcasing remnants of an impressive iron-age society who were trading with regions as far afield as Egypt and Asia. The village which was built on the hill was clearly based on a strict hierarchy, with the king’s house built at the top of the hill, and the villagers living on the slopes below him. The Mapungubwe Cultural Centre is located at the entrance to the reserve, and provides the story of this surprisingly advanced society. It also houses the famous golden rhino.

Tuli Game Reserve Accommodation

Tuli Game Reserve Reviews

Tuli Game Reserve
Excellent getaway not too far from home (Pietersburg), and compared to the Kruger Park, this gives you more in terms of interaction with the animals, as there is no fencing around the camp, and wild animals moves inside and around the camp to be seen from the deck, of the lapa and the river frontage with amazing bird life noted.
