Accommodation near Margate Main Beach - 9
Margate Main Beach is a Blue Flag beach in the resort town of Margate. It is located on the South Coast of KwaZulu Natal just south of Port Shepstone, approximately an hour and a half from Durban.
This beach is a magnet for families during the holidays due to its high levels of safety, thanks to the presence of lifeguards during peak season. It is a shark-net protected beach and is an incredibly popular one for swimming because of its warm Indian Ocean waters. Other water sports, though not as popular as leisurely swimming, are also common. It is also a favourite thanks to the family-friendly nature of the beach.
It has an Olympic-size swimming pool as well as a kiddies’ pool and also has bicycles and pleasure crafts for hire. The amusement park at the beach makes for an exciting day for children and the buzzing flea market just next to it an enjoyable day for adults. Additionally there are educational environmental programmes organised by the Blue Flag organisation.
Margate Main Beach is surrounded by restaurants and cocktail bars for a leisurely meal by the sea and drinks with friends or family.
The Margate Fishing Pier newly renovated and just along the way from the beach, is a popular fishing spot that has been called the 'mecca' of South Coast fishing. The Margate Country Club, set in beautiful scenery, is nearby too, offering a lovely golfing experience.
The Margate Beach hosts several concerts by big-name bands during the school holidays as well as the annual Harley Davidson Week. This phenomenon sees over 20 000 motorcyclists descend upon the town along with the more than 180 000 motorcycle enthusiasts.

Margate Reviews
Margate
Margate was very humid, always cloudy and at times very cold. We were hoping for more sunlight. However, the weather made our beach walks and swim pleasurable.

Margate
Margate is a good destination for a warmer beach holiday for folk living in the colder inland areas.
Self-catering holidays are well supplied with all the major shops and the restaurants are plentiful.
