The Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club is the successful product of a merger between the former Royal Johannesburg Golf Club and the Kensington Golf Club. This transition occurred in 1998 and is the first of its kind in South Africa.
Following the sale of the Kensington property, the funds raised were used to extensively revamp the clubhouse and the golf courses situated at Royal Johannesburg. Today, the collaboration has resulted in a club that is equipped with highly modernised facilities, a prestigious clubhouse, two parklands courses boasting a total of 36-holes and a strong membership base. While the facelift has resulted in a highly modernised estate, the original values of the former clubs remain the same.
The pristine golf club is situated just northwest of Johannesburg’s bustling city centre, and is a tranquil break away from the rigors of city living.
While primarily used for golfing events, the clubs is an ideal venue for a wide range of functions such as business conferences, weddings, banquets and cocktail parties.
The East Course has been listed as one of the top ten golf courses in the country – it poses as a challenge for seasoned professionals and enthusiasts. It has also been a chosen venue for major South African tournaments and championships, having hosted the South African Open Championships on a handful of occasions as well as the ever-popular Joburg Open.
While not as widely known as the east course, the layout of the west course makes for easy playing for golfers of varying skills and abilities. Players will enjoy the course for the abundance of vegetation lining the grounds as well as beautiful, sweeping fairways and a couple of water features.
