The Stilfontein Golf Club lies on the outskirts of the mining town of Stilfontein. Stilfontein is a relatively small town in the North West province, and is located on the N12 highway. The town lies almost exactly halfway between Potchefstroom and Klerksdorp and its economy is driven by gold-mining, the most renowned mine being the Hartebeesfontein Gold Mine.
The golf club boasts an 18-hole course and all the usual ancillary services you’d expect. The Stilfontein course is a parklands course, largely flat and dotted with trees along the fairways. The course’s total length is roughly 6443 metres.
The town of Stilfontein was established in 1949 as a result of the gold deposits found in the region. The golf course was built soon afterwards in 1957, proving that the town and the golf course have a long history together. In the time since its construction, many things have been done to improve the experience of local and visiting golfers to the course and club.
In the 21st century, the Stilfontein Golf Club boasts not only a pleasantly challenging and well-maintained course, but pro-shop, golf cart rentals, caddies and a club house offering a host of services. Among them are a conference venue and a bar where golfers can order drinks and snacks.
If you need to get your eye in pre-tee-off, there is a driving range, a practise bunker as well as chipping and putting greens.
The Stilfontein Golf Club welcomes visitors any day of the week and you only need be dressed in smart casual attire with soft-spiked shoes to be admitted.
