Turffontein Racecourse was founded in 1887 by the Johannesburg Turf Club and is South Africa’s premier horse racing venue. The track, which has a 3500m oval circumference, is considerably challenging and a true test of stamina for jockeys and their thoroughbreds. Since it was founded, the course has played host to numerous equine champions.

Annually, the racecourse sees approximately 40 race days attended by thousands of race-goers. A veritable highlight for many is the long-running and most prestigious horse race; The Summer Cup. This annually held event, which takes place in November, combines horse racing with the latest fashions as spectators dress up in their fanciest getups for the occasion.

Turffontein Racecourse has high-rise glass windows that provide spectators with a spectacular bird’s eye view of not only the course, but Johannesburg’s mesmerising skyline as well.
