The Umbogintwini Golf Course was established in 1910 and has not received many changes to its layout since the initial opening, thus retaining its old world charm. Situated in the rural, coastal town of Amanzimtoti, Umbogintwini is a challenge for both casual players and seasoned pros.
The 18-hole golf course is characterized by fairways, narrowed by avenues of trees, and undulating terrains. While a good shot is advantageous when playing here, technical accuracy is extremely crucial because of Umbogintwini’s many uphill ascents and downhill slopes. Golfers who frequent the course will agree that the sixth hole is simultaneously challenging and rewarding. Here you’ll find the course’s main water feature, a dam. Following one’s maneuvering around the dam; one has to contend with a bunker backed by a high, grassy bank.
As the area is susceptible to severe drought, the fairways are known to harden and become cracked during the summer months. However, when the rains do eventually fall, the grounds are covered in lush vegetation, making for a pleasant game of golf.
