Wits University Donald GordonMedical Centre islocated in Parktown Johannesburg. Itwas formally called the Kenridge Hospital until it was bought by the University of Witwatersrand in 2002,when its name was changed to the Wits University Donald Gordon Medical Centre.
WUDGMC, as you may have guessed, is a teaching hospital. It is the first private academic medical institutionin South Africa and is focused on specialistand sub specialist training. The hospital is dedicated to ensuring thefuture of health care and health profession training in South Africa and putsemphasis on putting the patient first and making them the centre of operations.
Thishospital aims to retain and increase the number of specialists and subspecialists in South Africa by providing a unique world class training programme for South African doctors in SouthAfrica. To achieve this goal, WUDGMC offers two training programmes: afellowship teaching programme as well as a registrar teaching programme.
WUDGMC alsoaims to provide quality, affordable carefor patients in need of highly specialised treatment. There are several highly specialised units available atthe hospital which include: a colorectal unit, an intensive and high care unit,an endoscopy unit, an endovascular unit, a geriatric unit, and oncology,paediatric oncology and transplant units. There is also a women's health centre.
Some of theancillary services and teaching areasoffered at the hospital are as follows: audiology and speech therapy,cardiology, clinical psychology, dental surgery, dietetics as well as manymedical disciplines such as family medicine, oncology and paediatrics.
