The greater Addo region in the Eastern Cape of South Africa encircles the famed reserve, the Addo Elephant National Park. The park was proclaimed in 1931 to protect the small number of elephants remaining in the Eastern Cape. Since then it has grown and thrived and a number of game has been re-introduced. If you visit this malaria-free game reserve today, you could run into dense herds of elephants, the endangered black rhino, hyenas, leopards, lions and buffalo.

The park is one of the most biologically diverse areas inthe world and contains 5 of the 7 biomes within its boundaries. While you will hit the Zuurberg Mountains in the north, the South is home to the Alexandria dune field which boasts one of the widest, longest stretches of sand-dunes in the Southern Hemisphere.
