Bellville is a residential area in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town, a mere 20 kilometres outside of the city centre on the N1 towards Stellenbosch. It offers breath-taking views over the Winelands and the Stellenbosch Mountains, easy access to Cape Town’s beaches and a unique culture all of its own.
Bellville, which was founded as a railway station on the line from Cape Town to Strand, was originally named "12-Myl-Pos" due to it being located 12 miles from the city. The Twelve-mile Rockstone, now considered a monument, still exists in the heart of Bellville and signifies the historical rest point for those long-ago travelling wagons. It was renamed in 1861, after the surveyor general Charles Bell.
Today Bellville is a modern city, offering ample opportunity for shopping, leisure and dining. Tyger Valley shopping centre is a highly popular mall attracting thousands of visitors with its large variety of shops, boutiques and entertainment options.
For something a little more outdoors, the Bellville Golf course is a good choice, offering an 18-hole course and beautiful views of the Hottentots Holland Mountain range. The Tygerberg Nature Reserve is nearby, and boasts the most scenic of hiking trails.
Wine connoisseurs should take a drive out to the burgeoning Durbanville Wine Route, which is growing in popularity due to its fine wines, fine dining restaurants and intimate country kitchens.

I haven't been to Bellville in over 13 years, being back there was awesome. A shopping mall is in walking distance and there is also a variety of food outlets to choose from.
