Bloubergstrand refers to a seaside neighbourhood and beach. It is a short 25 kilometres from Cape Town’s centre, and all the exciting attractions the city has to offer. Bloubergstrand is popular for its arresting views of Table Mountain, the harbour and Robben Island. Bloubergstrand is a younger suburb than many of Cape Town’s other neighbourhoods. Here everything seems bigger and more modern- from wider streets to larger houses with sleek finishes. The strand (beach) itself is also longer than many other beaches and certainly boasts a view of Cape Town’s famous mountain unrivalled by any other vantage point.

It is an impressive stretch of white sand, popular amongst dog-walkers, families and tourists alike. The name Bloubergstrand roughly translates into English as "Blue Mountain Beach". The beach was named after "Blouberg", a hill just inland from the coast.

Bloubergstrand is perfect for people needing some rest and relaxation. The sound of the ocean lapping against the sand is a constant backtrack to life in Bloubergstrand and one that can’t help but calm frayed nerves. Ocean and ocean-sports fanatics also find their spiritual home in Bloubergstrand.

The beach’s waves are great for surfing in all its incarnations. Surfers congregate near the old shipwreck just off shore, and kite-surfers are dotted up and down the length of the beach when the wind conditions favourable. These two sports are also great for spectators strolling along the beach.

Another beach activity is exploring the rock pools at the tip of the beach – a diversion particularly popular among the young ‘uns.

Bloubergstrand is now home to a number of small shopping complexes boasting surf and gift shops as well as restaurants with a view. There are plenty of eateries to stop in for breakfast, lunch, sun downers or dinner, which give you great views of the sea and mountain.

Accommodation in Bloubergstrand tends to be of the self-catering apartment, bed and breakfast or guesthouse variety – hotels aren’t really Blouberstrand’s style.
