The town of Boksburg is officially part of Greater Johannesburg and falls under the Ekhuruleni Metropolitan Municipality. It is located on Gauteng’s East Rand and neighbours settlements such as Germiston (to the west) and Benoni (to the east).
Being located on the East Rand, it is not surprising that Boksburg owes its existence to the discovery of gold in the area. Gold was first unearthed there in 1887 and as often happened, a town sprung up to serve the developing mine. Boksburg was named after the then state secretary, W Eduard Bok.
Today Boksburg is one of the most important mining towns on the whole Witwatersrand. Unlike the olden days though, it is less gold-centric and now is a diversified mining and industrial centre. Apart from there being a number of active mines, Boksburg is also the home of headquarters of numerous large companies such as Macsteel and EL Bateman. There are also many factories in the area with big names like Colgate Palmolive, and South Africa’s largest food brand, Tiger Brands having factories in Boksburg. The presence of these companies and factories mean that the main types of travellers choosing accommodation in Boksburg are businesspeople.
Despite the abundance of industry and businesspeople though, Boksburg is not all work and no play. One of the town’s nicest recreational areas is the Boksburg Lake, a large, tree-lined body of water which is popular for picnics, water sports, fishing and even hiking.
The East Rand Mall, one of the largest and most popular shopping centres in Gauteng, also provides myriad entertainment options, from 10 pin bowling and the cinema to the Wild Waters water park.
Boksburg is crisscrossed with numerous transport links like the N17 and N12, and the OR Tambo airport is situated just north of the town.

We are situated in Boksburg, about 13 km from OR Tambo Airport. We are just off the N17 freeway Rondebult turn off. The Rand Airport is 7km from us. Carnival City is also just off the N17.
