Muizenberg Verblyf - 2
Muizenberg is a beach-side suburb located on the Cape Peninsula, along the coastline of False Bay in Cape Town.
Considered South Africa’s premier surfing spot, the sleepy suburb is home to a vibrant surfing community and the ever-popular ‘Surfer’s Corner’. For those who are coming down for a surfing holiday and are looking to cut costs, there are many Backpackers available. If you are more the self-sufficient kind, there are also many self catering apartments in Muizenberg.
A veritable highlight for tourists and locals are the expansive stretches of beaches – covering a distance of 20 km from Muizenberg all the way to Strand.
The area is historically rich with a number of features to visit. Muizenberg is home to the oldest building in False Bay, Het Posthys – this landmark was first established in 1742 by the Dutch East India Company, functioning as a ‘tollhouse’ where farmers paid their levies and taxes. Further along is the ‘Rhodes Cottage’- Cecil John Rhode’s holiday home and place of death. Visitors to the area are urged to view the site of the 1795 Battle of Muizenberg – a military affair that saw British troops capture the Dutch colony.
Muizenberg is also home to the Zandvlei estuary, considered an important breeding ground for fish spawning along the coastline.
Visitors and locals can enjoy a variety of surfing and sporting adventures in Muizenberg; or stroll along for a cup of coffee or some local cuisine at the many cafes and restaurants speckled along the main beach. The annually held Kite Festival is a crowd favourite, which sees kites from The Netherlands, Germany, UK and South Africa being flown high in the sky.

Muizenberg
I loved Muizenberg. It has a quaint, village feel (newly renovated and old shabby) and a variety of different views and activities. I enjoyed the beach (would be nice if you could warm up the sea!!), and walked around the "village" looking at the buildings and made it my business to climb hundreds of stairs to check out the views. Everywhere you look there is a picture postcard view. All municipal buildings were beautifully maintained. well done.
