Cape Town Port Festival 2016 - 21

The Transnet Port Authority will be hosting the next installment of their Port Festivals, with the next one gracing the shores of the Mother City from 30 April - 1 May 2016. The two-day event will be happening in and around the Cape Town Port, situated at Duncan Dock and 'A' Berth at the V& A Waterfront's harbour, and promises to be a weekend of fun and education.

The aims of the event are to reintegrate ports with the community, making them more accessible to the public. Says TNPA Chief Executive, Richard Vallihu, "It’s been well documented in recent months that we as the port authority are pursuing the concept of ‘smart people’s ports’ with a focus on development as well as technology. To us, progressive and sustainable ports are those that co-exist and evolve with the communities where the commercial ports are.

Organisers of the event hope that the opening of the ports will have a positive impact on Cape Town tourism, and create career and business in the maritime industry.

The first port festival in ten years was held in KwaZulu-Natal last year, at the Richards Bay Port. This event saw thousands flock to the port, to enjoy naval vessel tours, water sports, kid's entertainment and live entertainment by a host of South African artists and DJ's.

While the details of this year's event have yet to be released, festival-goers can mingle with celebrity chefs, visit craft stalls, dance along to the tunes of top-notch DJs, enjoy picnics and take part in numerous water activities.

Come on along for a day of family fun!
