J&B Met 2016 - 8
On Saturday, 30 January 2016, The J&B Met returns once again for the 39th run at the historic 52-hectare Kenilworth Racecourse in Cape Town.
Since its inception, the Met has proved to be the most prestigious horse racing event in South Africa, combining the best of horseracing with high-edge fashion. Considered by many to be South Africa's most veritable lifestyle events, it's a perfect occasion to rub shoulders with the rich and famous, fashion-forward thinkers and - of course - horse racing enthusiasts betting on 16 race-ready thoroughbreds.
These spectacular beasts will streak across a 2000-metre track watched on by thousands of awe-struck spectators. Over the years, horse-betters have hit the jackpot competing for generous cash prizes valued at R2.5 million.
J&B Met has grown over the years and now attracts more than 50 000 people to its doors each year. Its facilities include a 5000 capacity marquee village and 184 picnic sites. The magnitude of this event goes a long way in its aim of promoting Cape Town and the Western Cape as a premier tourist destination.
A highlight of the day's itinerary is the anticipated 'Most Elegant Couple' competition. The competition sees couples dressed to the nines to compete for the winning title and prizes. For the hungry and thirsty, a vast selection of food and drink is available to spectators. Live music performances will occur throughout the day and well into the night for the classic J&B Met after-party.
