Mine Closure 2014 - 4

Mine Closure 2014 is an international conference on mine closures and is taking place at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, from 1 - 3 October 2014.

This event provides a global forum for exchanging views and developing capacity to ensure that new mines are designed for closure, old sites are closed economically and societal and environmental impacts are minimised.

It also provides a platform for mining companies and service providers to position their organisations and services in terms of mine closure. There are many aspects that an organisation may be able to assist with such as compliance, transformation of liabilities and sustainable development.

This year's them is "Transforming wastes to resources to re-value mining liabilities in a changing world".

The show is sponsored by the Technology and Human Resources for Industry Programme (THRIP) of the Department of Trade and Industry of South Africa (DTI), and the National Research Foundation of South Africa (NRF).

The show was founded 9 years ago by the  Australian Centre for Geomechanics (ACG) and the Centre for Land Rehabilitation (CLR), University of Western Australia (UWA). Cranfield University, United Kingdom is a collaborating organisation
