If you've got nothing planned over the weekend in mid-March, why not head over the Stellenbosch for some traditional grape stomping at the Muratie Harvest Festival. The one-day event takes place on 12 March 2016 at the Muratie Wine Estate.
Not only is the festival an attraction for wine aficionados, but is an event suited to the whole family. Kids and their parents can enjoy an afternoon of squelching and stomping on grapes. The activity is not only a stress release but is a fun way to bond with friends and loved ones. As one can imagine all that exercise that comes along with grape-stomping is bound to work up a sizeable appetite. For the hungry, there is a range of lip-smacking meals available for purchasing. Accompany those hearty platefuls of food with a spectrum of Muratie wine varietals, and if you don't drink alcohol, there are also cool drinks to quench one's thirst.
At around noon, attendees who are interested in learning more about the origins of the Murati Estate should attend a talk by Rijk Melck from Muratie. The guide will be divulging information about the interesting characters from the farm’s past, after whom the Muratie wines are named. After the talk, make your way to the towering oak trees and savour some latest release wines. Here you'll be able to relax while listening to the sweet melodies by the Kitchen Jammin’ Blues Band.
