Stellenbosch at Summer Place 2015 - 8
Every year, the finest Cape Winelands’ chefs make their way through to Gauteng to participate in the province’s most sought-after culinary event, Stellenbosch at Summer Place. Participating chefs will team up with expert winemakers to create unique, speciality dishes. These will be complemented by a selection of 80 of Stellenbosch’s acclaimed wines.
This year’s event, which takes place on the 25th of November 2015, promises to be better than ever before. The chef line-up includes the likes of Michael Deg, Michael Broughton, Gregory Czarnecki, George Jordine and celebrity chef, Bertus Basson.
Making his debut at this year’s event is Michael Deg, the head chef for the world-renowned Delaire Graffe restaurant. He is known for his locally-inspired cuisine infused with fresh, vibrant flavours. Visitors can look forward to his ‘Karoo Lamb’, date and almond terrine, accompanied by a spiced red onion gel; paired with a glass of Shiraz or Pinotage. Also forming part of the red section is the multi-award winning chef Michael Broughton, who commandeers the Terroir Restaurant at Klein Zalze Wine Estate. His chosen speciality dish for the event is a ‘Confit Shoulder of Lamb’, served with peas, tomato and basil, and complemented by a selection of red blends.
Seasoned chef of Summer Place George Jordine, makes his return for yet another cook-up. Visitors can look forward to his ‘Joostenburgbvlakte Duck’, a dish of artichoke puree and seed crisps, accompanied by a glass of crisp white wine. Bertus Basson, from the acclaimed Overture Restaurant, will be bringing some Asian-inspired cuisine to the table with his ‘Crisp Ham Hock’ served with cauliflower and parmesan.
Those new to the Summer Place dining experience should expect a swanky, mingling affair rather than a traditional sit-down dinner. For the brandy lovers, and those looking for in-between snacks, there will be a brandy lounge and a selection of cheeses and sweet treats to nibble on. The evening will be accompanied by live music performances and an exhibition of rare art pieces from the Sanlam Art Collection.
