Situated in the town of Sutherland and which is known as the place people go to look at the skies. Alpha Bed & Breakfast is a cosy 2 bedroomed self catering unit, safe and quiet with the clearest skies and the brightest stars.
Almost 120 kilometres due north of Matjiesfontein in the Roggeveld of the Karoo, Sutherland is where one can marvel at the star scape that sweep the outer limits, and where astronomers come to use the telescopes of the South African Astronomical Observatory. Alpha Bed and Breakfast offers one room featuring a double bed and the other room two single beds. In addition, an extra divan in the lounge area can accommodate a fifth person. Features include DSTV and a fireplace for those cold winter nights, as well as a garden with barbecue facilities. All rooms also offer electric blankets to fend off the winter night chill. This charming apartment with stone walls is offered on both a self-catering and bed and breakfast basis.
Perlman House Pub and Restaurant, situated in the main road of Sutherland in a historic 19th century “Dorpshuis” menu reflects the old standards of home cooking served in the non smoking dining room or in the cosy bar area. Visit Oudag se Koffiewinkel who have a lovely farm atmosphere, offering honest, traditional foods, friendly service and delicious filter coffee.
Amongst the many attractions in Sutherland is an eroded volcano by the name of Salpeterkop which is south of Sutherland. But if you've come to Sutherland, chances are that all you want to do is kick back, look at the stars, and brood on how often you can escape the city.
