Once the home of the late State President, Jim Fouche. He was born in the Orange Free State and was a successful farmer, a staunch Republican and a member of the National Party for many years.
Fouche served as an Administrator of the Orange Free State from 1954 to 1959 and was promoted to the cabinet, where he served as minister of defence and as minister of agricultural and water affairs.
He was elected as the President of South Africa and he established himself in 9 de Jongh Street in Strand, which is now known as the guesthouse Villa the President.
