Makakatana Bay Lodge is the only privately owned Lodge situated within the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park, World Heritage site.
The Lodge has 5 Standard rooms, 1 Honeymoon Suite and 2 Family rooms (can take 4 people each). Sleeping maximum 20 people in the Lodge. The rooms are set privately in the Dune Forests on the banks of the Lake.
The rooms have: telephones, air conditioners, heaters, overhead fans, minibars, tea stations, separate bathroom & toilets,outdoor shower & bath.
The Main Building has a bar, lounge, dining room, craft shop and outdoor decks. There is also an outdoor boma, for dining around the fire at night.

Recommended Itinerary for 4 Night Stay
Day 1 - Afternoon Wetlands Safari Drive
Guests are taken on an afternoon Safari Drive into the Wetlands watching Hippo, crocodile & birds on their first day at the Lodge. It is recommended that guests arrive at the Lodge by 15h00 in order to go on the drive. Guests are driven to the banks of the Mpati River mouth, where hippo pass through in the late afternoon.
Animals that may be seen include Giraffe, Wildebeest, Buffalo, Zebra, White Rhino, Waterbuck, serval, porcupine, genet, Leopard, Elephant and Black Rhino. (note - this activity is offered on the day of arrival)
Day 2 - Boat Trip and Wetland Exploration
Guests are taken on an exploration of the Wetland Park. This includes a 2 hour boat trip on a private boat on the St Lucia Estuary. A picnic lunch is served before returning to the Lodge.
The focus of this safari is to seek out birdlife, hippo and crocodile on the boat and other animals and birds in the Wetlands.
Day 3 - Beach Safari
Depart after Breakfast & enjoy a leisurely safari drive to the Eastern Shores through the Greater
St Lucia Wetland Park Reserve. Guests are taken to the Beach for swimming & snorkeling and then enjoy a picnic lunch in the sand dune forests followed by a game drive back to the Lodge by 15h00 for afternoon Tea served at 16h00. This is a combination safari, which includes a game drive and beach experience.
Day 4 - Hluhluwe / Umfolozi Game Reserve
Early Wake up & depart from the Lodge - 1h15 minute drive in a Safari vehicle (or combi if preferred) to Hluhluwe or Umfolozi Game Reserve. A bush brunch is prepared and served by the guide in the park. Guests return to the Lodge by 14h00 for a light lunch.
Enjoy an afternoon siesta or leisure time at the pool on the lakes edge.
Day 5
Early morning Safari - leaving at 05h00 and back for breakfast at 08h00 & check out by 11h00.
