Agterplaas B&B is situated at the foot of the historical Melville Koppies. The view, tranquility and bird life easily lull visitors into forgetting they're in South Africa's busiest city. Yet the attractions of the Melville boutiques, bookshops, coffee bars and nightclubs are just a stone's throw away.
Melville offers something for everyone, whether you're in the mood for upscale restaurants featuring organic produce or casual, student-friendly pizzerias. It's a part of Johannesburg that blends cosmopolitan energy with a laid-back vibe. The shops here have a unique, eclectic charm, reflecting the area's bohemian spirit.
Known for its vibrant nightlife and village-like atmosphere, Melville is filled with character-rich homes. The lively 7th Street, with its boutiques, bookshops, coffee bars, and nightclubs, is just a short walk away. We are conveniently located about 3 km from the University of Johannesburg, the SABC and Media Park, 5 km from Milpark Hospital, and 7 km from Wits University.
Agterplaas offers 14 en-suite rooms which are individually decorated, furnished with a king-size bed or twin beds on request; some rooms have a sofa bed for a 3rd person. All units have fans, heaters, flat screen TV, a bar fridge, free Wi-Fi, and coffee/tea facilities. Safe parking or lock-up garages are available at no extra cost.
There is also a very spacious cottage with self-catering facilities and a delightful private garden that would normally be allocated to guests who are staying for longer periods of time.
Our onsite restaurant serves exceptional South African cuisine, which can be enjoyed in our charming dining room with authentic Oregon Pine flooring and pressed ceilings, or outdoors on the patio. Our famous breakfast with fresh homemade breads, served 7 days a week from 7.00am until 10.00am, is included in the room rate. We also serve dinner by request, and you can choose from a 1 course, 2 course, or 3 course meal. Please enquire at the office to make arrangements. We also offer limited informal conference facilities.

My stay in Agterplaas B&B was excellent overall. Great service, clean and comfortable room and nice garden space to relax (and listen to the birds). It is located in a nice, quiet street, in a neighborhood with restaurants and stores.
