The Fouriesburg Hotel was established in 1892. When they bought the hotel in October 1995 we changed the name to the Fouriesburg COUNTRY INN. With the name change so we began to develop our ideal of a real country inn, with country cooking, country furniture and ambience of a total country experience together with good old-fashioned country hospitality.
A beautiful sandstone and Oregon pine building is decorated in period style. It has 22 attractive bedrooms en-suite. Voesie Maarman, a sandstone cottage, built on the premises of the hotel, has four luxury bedrooms en- suite as well as its own lounge. Craig's Corner, a sandstone building across the street, from the hotel, This has also been built from reclaimed sandstone and has four bedrooms en-suite.
Guests can enjoy authentic country cuisine, with superb South African wine, chosen from our delightful Sandstone Wine Cellar. We serve meals from an A la Carte Menu. We seat approximately 75 people in the restaurant. The inn's speciality islamb-on-the-spit, served with traditional “potbrood and vetkoek” in the boma.
Fouriesburg was proclaimed a town in 1892 deriving its name from the many families with the name of Fourie who were living in the area. The original Fourie was Mr Rooi Stoffel Fourie, owner of the farm Groenfontein.
Fouriesburg is situated in the Eastern Free State. It is 50km from Bethlehem and 50km from Ficksburg. The Town is surrounded by the Maluti mountains and is only 10 km from the Lesotho border. The elevation is 1627m above sea level. The nearby peak of Visierskerf in the Witteberge is the second highest mountain peak in the Free State and is the seventh highest in the country.
