The Water Wheel is a tranquil wedding and conference venue nestled outside Vryheid surrounded by a beautiful country garden, recreational dams and mountains. The Water Wheel offers a variety of accommodation options to suit all guests, including standard rooms, executive rooms, family rooms and a honeymoon suite. Each room has a private en-suite bathroom, a tea and coffee station, and Wi-Fi internet access. On the property, there is a stunning wedding chapel, and a venue for weddings and events, as well as conference facilities. The beautiful Gardens offer plenty of seating areas and a gazebo to relax and enjoy the tranquillity. There are 2 dams on the property offering a variety of black bars and tilapia for a relaxed catch-and-release fishing experience. Free off-street parking is provided on the premises.
Vryheid offers a hiking trail, various, historical sites to see and the Vryheid nature reserve which is abundant in animal and bird life. Vryheid lies close to the site of one of the more infamous battles of the Battlefields Route, the battle of Blood River, fought on the river of the same name in 1838 when the Boers confronted the Zulus under Dingaan. Vryheid was intrinsically involved in the subsequent Anglo-Boer War of 1899, making it one of the more interesting towns on the Battlefields route - a route that traces the myriad battlefield sites and memorials dotted across the surrounding countryside.
