Wakkerstroom Farm lodge is a bird watchers paradise, situated 6 km from Wakkerstroom on the south-eastern Highveld, approximately 270 kilometers (3 hours) from Johannesburg. Wakkerstroom is a world-renowned wetland, well known for its endemic bird species such as Rudd’s and Botha’s Larks. Other specialties to be found in the vast grassland include all three Crane species, Ground Woodpecker, Bald Ibis and Blue Korhaan.
Wakkerstroom Farm and Town Lodge has three different sets of accommodation. namely:
1. THE FARM HOUSE
Discover the quietude of a bygone era in the Cape Dutch style farm house built in 1904. The farmhouse can accommodate ten guests and is set in a park like garden. Guests at the Farm House are ensured of complete privacy as the lodge is rented out on an exclusive basis only. Whether organizing a family gathering or escaping from the city lights for some rest and solitude, the Farm House is the perfect getaway!
The Farm House can be rented on a Self Catering, Bed & Breakfast or Dinner, Bed & Breakfast basis. The tariffs from 1 September 2014 are R275 per person per night for self catering, R350 for Bed & Breakfast and R480 for Dinner, Bed & Breakfast.
2. OOM HANS' COTTAGE
Oom Hans' Cottage has two bedrooms, a large kitchen / living room and separate bathroom and toilet. One bedroom has a double bed and the other two bunk beds. In winter warmth is provided by an anthracite stove. The cottage is equipped with a gas geyser, stove & fridge and solar powered lanterns. Guests at Oom Hans' cottage are ensured of complete privacy as the cottage is rented out on an exclusive basis only.
Apart from anything else Oom Hans' Cottage has arguably the best panoramic views in the district.
Only self catering is available and the tariff from 1 September 2014 is R175 per person per night with a minimum fee of R400
3. BADENHORST COTTAGE
Badenhorst Cottage is situated in Wakkerstroom itself within walking distance of all the amenities.
Badenhorst Cottage has two bedrooms, a large kitchen / living room and bathroom.
Only self catering is available and the tariff from 1 September 2014 is R200 per person per night with a minimum fee of R450.
