Nestling amongst Wild Olive, White Stinkwood and Yellowwood trees, Baviaans Lodge is a "home from home" Wilderness retreat that is the gateway to this unique natural wildlife experience.
Situated in an indigenous tree filled valley as it enters the Kouga Mountains which form part of the Baviaanskloof, the lodge has been built from local natural stone in keeping with a traditional country lodge.
Natural stone cottages provide comfortable Baviaanskloof accommodation, each with a fireplace providing warmth in the winter months.
A large fireplace in the main lodge, Yellowwood beamed ceilings together with stunning natural stone and wood floors is the perfect place for guests to relax in the evenings.
Enjoy a glass of wine from our country pub and listen to stories and folktales of the Wilderness area and Kloof that makes a visit to the Lodge so special.
The warm hospitality and friendly staff of Baviaans Lodge will ensure every moment of your stay is unique and memorable. Enjoy superb country style meals freshly prepared by Koe Koe and served from the "farmhouse kitchen" in the romantic setting of the Lodge Dining Room.
Baviaans has no electricity or cell phone reception (although you can take a short drive up the mountain!), so enjoy quiet evenings by candlelight and paraffin lamps. The main lodge runs on a generator in the evenings and there is DSTV for the sports fans in the pub!
The Summer months provide the ideal weather for outdoor entertainment and eating in our Boma.
We offer a stunning campsite, for the outdoor experience enthusiast. This more suited for the summer months due to the cold winters we experience in the Kouga mountains.

The area:
Baviaans Kloof lies to the West and North of Port Elizabeth, and consists of 260,000 hectares of pristine, unspoilt mountain Wilderness terrain, with rugged side kloofs cutting through the length of the Kloof as it stretches from Patensie to Willowmore. It is narrower in width, from Steytlerville on its Eastern side to the Langkloof on the Western side. The Baviaanskloof and Kouga mountains are the ancient natural guardians of this unique region. A wide diversity of plants, animals, birds, trees and flowers enrich this area, making it a World Heritage Site on the doorstep of Port Elizabeth.
Conservation at the Lodge:
Conservation at Baviaans Lodge is not just confined to preserving the large glamorous species of predators such as our "Cape Mountains Leopard”.
Here we look after even the smallest and seldom seen such as the “Red Finned Minnow". This endangered fish species is found in the mountain streams at the Lodge.
We actively participate in local as well as broader conservation initiatives, assisting with research, conservation corridor projects as well as the rehabilitation of previously farmed lands.
Our conservation work includes the planting of indigenous trees raised in our small nursery at the Lodge, thus helping to preserve the local unique characteristics found in their genes

The Eagle Nest cottage has veranda to sit and enjoy the view over a glass of wine. The shower/bath is built from natural stone. The cottage also has a built in fire place and wood is provided free of charge during winter.
