Die Stal is a small cottage built with stone, situated in Sutherland. This self-catering cottage is fully equipped with everything that you would need on a weekend away.
The cottage consists of two bedrooms, one bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen with a big fireplace for the winter months and a comfortable lounge area. Every room has blankets, electric warm blankets, spare blankets, towels and all bedding. This home is ideal for a family or a group of friends wanting to experience the tranquility of Sutherland in a rustic, but comfortable accommodation.
120 km North of Matjiesfontein in the Roggeveld of the Karoo, Sutherland is a space of clear, dark night skies. It's where you can dream to catch a star.
The house is comfortably furnished with two bedrooms and one shared bathroom.

We were accommodated in Damara Cottage, converted rooms linked to the main house. The cost was inexpensive. The host was welcoming offering a home-baked banana loaf and the wi-fi password. She also gave us direction to the Ouberg Pass when I mentioned we would like to drive it on our way home (good ground clearance important).
The building conversion work to create Damara Cottage was slightly roughshod. Main gripe was a slight damp smell from the shower which seemed to have a leaking waste pipe leaving grey water to lie around the edge of the floor behind the basin and toilet. But that can be fixed. The bathroom could do with a mirror, some shelving to put toiletries, a bit more hanging space for change of clothes and perhaps a curtain on the frosted glass door for more privacy when changing.
The area at the time of year was dry and dusty but the rooms were generally clean despite that, beds were comfortable. The kitchen had what we needed. We used the outside braai. There is an indoor braai in the kitchen for winter but the chimney stopped under the eve. If that could be extended and a cowl fitted it would probably prevent too much smoke and draft pushing down the chimney. There were doors on that indoor braai to minimise the draft though. The TV had no cables so no TV or DSTV as advertised, not that we were in town to be indoors. Somewhere to put or hang clothes would have been nice. The artwork on the walls gave a homely feel to the combined living/sleeping area.
Our stay in Damara Cottage was cost effective and although a few gripes, we slept well and made good use of our time there.

Een kamer het geen hangplekke vir klerasie,die ander kamer baie beperk! Binne huise dekorasie kan baie verbeter dat dit nie so "tydelik" idee gee!
