Moolmanshoek is situated in the Witteberg mountain range, between Ficksburg and Rosendal, in the Eastern Free State, South Africa.

The reserve was declared a Natural Heritage Site (No 199) in 1994, mainly due to the rare Mountain Bamboo that grows in the valley.
