Allendale is a working farm in the Eastern Cape, located in the beautiful district of Graaff-Reinet, the gem of the Karoo. By offering self catering, dinner bed & breakfast accommodation in our family unit, we extend this beauty and make it possible for people from the city to enjoy the quiet of the Karoo. Going for walks, a picnic or sundowners in the poplar bush, braaing under the endless stars or just relaxing in the garden, Allendale offers a farming experience to people at a reasonable cost. Allendale is about half an hour’s drive from both Graaff-Reinet & Nieu-Bethesda. Allendale is a livestock farm, where we still sheer sheep with the hand & bale our wool on the manual way. Game that we have on the farm include White, Normal & Black Spring-buck; Kudu; Blue Cranes; Black Eagles; Duiker; Steenbuck; Grey Reedbuck; Carracul & Black Backed Jackal As you light your fire for a sun-set braai from the cottage-stoep, you will hear sheep calling their lambs or cattle bulking for each other. The beauty of being on a Karoo farm is that you can "hear the earth turning" in the quiet of the night under the endless starry sky.
