Oban has a rich history dating back over 100 years. The guest farm opened its doors for business in 1922 to supplement the farm income during WWI. She has seen the Anglo Boer War, The Second Boer War, WWI and WWII. The trail of those who passed through is sprinkled everywhere on the farm in the form of their names and dates carved into the sandstone rock. Having recently bought the farm we have been hard at work to restore her back to her former glory as decades of neglect threatened to ruin her beautiful story. So bring your binoculars, mountain bikes, hiking shoes, cameras, fishing rods or easel and paints. You're in for a memorable experience! Our new staff is here to ensure that your stay is a memorable one. You'll arrive as guests but will leave as friends. We are farm folk and very relaxed. Our home cooked meals are served in our restaurant and it will take you back to grandma's kitchen! Our chef, Millie just LOVES cooking for folks and boy, she ain't shy when serving your plate! Our massive lounge has a breathtaking view of the Tandjiesberg Mountain range and Nelson's Kop. It is rustic and homey and oh so cozy! We love our winters since we always have a crackling fire going that draws you in like a moth to a flame. So grab a book and a cuppa (or a glass-a - we don't judge ;) ) and feel the stress drain from your soul as you find your center again. Looking for a tranquil place to host your next yoga retreat? You found it! We have endless spots for you to meditate and stretch! We have two dams for you to enjoy. One is MASSIVE and the other one not so big but the fishing is good! Having been labeled a 'dark site' by astrophotographers we have some beautiful images that was captured by Wayne Hall which can be seen on our Facebook Page. Looking for the perfect Country Wedding setting? We can comfortably host weddings from 5 to 50 guests. We have the perfect natural surroundings for an unforgettable wedding and stunning photos. Things are slower here. To fill your bath takes ten minutes from our natural spring water through our gas fired geysers. The water is crystal clear and is drinkable from the tap. (Better than bottled water, in fact!) Oban has over 240 recorded bird varieties sighted on the property and in the adjacent area. The Bokmakierie greets you in the morning and our peaceful surroundings attracts birds from all over. We have recently rehabilitated the wetlands and flocks of waterbirds are returning making for a beautiful show! So come on in, y'all.
