Accommodation near Bazley Beach
Bazley Beach, also known simply as Bazley, is a small settlement and beach on KwaZulu Natal’s South Coast. It is located a few kilometres south of Durban, in a section of the South Coast known as the Umdoni Coast. The Umdoni Coast refers to the Greater Scottburgh region and is a great destination to visit throughout the year.
Bazley Beach is named after John Bazley, who was a successful sugarcane farmer in the area. It was his son who was responsible for opening up the Mzimkulu River mouth for shipping in Port Shepstone, further down the South Coast.
Bazley Beach experiences a subtropical climate which makes for hot, humid summer days and far more pleasant, warm, dry winters. It lies on the Indian Ocean coast, so the sea temperature never gets too cold either. Obviously, like most parts of the KwaZulu Natal coastline, the beach itself is a major draw card, and with shark nets in place and life guards on duty, visitors are endured safe swimming.
Just off the coast are numerous coral reefs and other impressive dive sites, the most famous of which being the Aliwal Shoal. Many people visit the area for this very reason. Surfing is also popular on this section of the coast.
The Umdoni Coast is also renowned for its golf courses, with some even calling it the ‘Golf Coast’. There are 11 golf courses in the area with 3 of them being rated within the top 10 of South Africa’s best golf courses.
