Accommodation near Bikini Beach - 12
Bikini Beach is a small, crescent-shaped patch of sand tucked neatly between a harbour wall and a row of houses leading up to the mountain. You’ll find it in Gordon’s Bay, a small, summery beach town just off the N2 at the bottom of the Hottentots Holland mountain range. By taking the N2, you can reach Gordon’s Bay within 40 minutes of leaving Cape Town.
Bikini Beach, like the small town, lies on the coast of False Bay, the body of water which many an explorer mistook for Table Bay, the ultimate goal of their voyages. This bay is an especially popular spot for whale watchers who follow these ‘giants of the deep’ to the bay, where they mate and breed between the months of June and September.
The bay is also popular among people because it is protected and the ocean temperature is a lot warmer than the wild seas outside of it. Bikini Beach is particularly popular for those very reasons. Located next to the harbour, the cement wall which juts out on the one side of the beach, combined with the natural curve of the land creates a mini bay within the already-protected False Bay. Thus when the wind is pumping, as it is wont to do in the summer months of January and February, the mountain behind the beach and the barriers on either side of it mean that the wind sails right over Bikini Beach, making it one of the most pleasant beaches to visit in the Western Cape.
Furthermore, Bikini Beach is a Blue Flag beach, indicating that it has well-kempt facilities and provides a safe, non-polluted environment for the people and other animals which make use of it.

Gordon's Bay
Gordon's Bay is WINDY. Very WINDY.

Gordon's Bay
I was born in Gordons Bay and this was my trip down "memory lane".
Pity to see that the crime rate is on the increase.
Sad to see that the old Van Riebeeck Hotel site still a untidy mess!
