Accommodation near Chakas Rock Beach

Chakas Rock Beach was named after an outcrop found on the North Coast of KwaZulu Natal. It has been said that it was once the outlook post for the great Zulu king and conqueror, Shaka Zulu. On occasion, the leader would challenge his followers to jump to their deaths into the dark waters below as a means to test their unyielding loyalties. Today, however, acts of that kind don’t occur here. Rather, it is a place of fun for bathers looking to paddle in the sea and bask in the sunshine. For water babies looking to venture into deeper waters, there are a number of exciting beach breaks and reefs to ensure a good surfing sessions.

Apart from the surfing and swimming, Chaka’s Rock is a prime launch site for ski-boats and deep-sea fishing vessels. Holidaymakers can take a walk down to the beach and see some impressing beachings of boats as they return from deep sea expeditions.

The location of Chaka’s Rock Beach is idea, situated a mere 40km’s north from central Durban and is a stone’s throw away from the popular seaside destination, Ballito.

Following a family-fun morning on the beach, it is worth your while to go visit Flag Farm Animal Farm if you have smaller children. Here they’ll get into close proximity with farm animals and can even immerse themselves in daily farm tasks, including milking cows or feeding chickens. For the less adventurous, there are numerous babies to be held and pet. Be aware of the geese who cheekily roam around the premises, hissing and honking at those who get too close.

Take a quick drive to Ballito to catch up on a shop at the Ballito Lifestyle Centre. Here you’ll be able to browse at boutique stores, do a grocery shop at the convenience store or enjoy a meal out at one of the open-aired restaurants.

Ballito
It is a beautiful area, but it was too busy December. The Granny Pool in Salt Rock was too busy to even have a swim in it. We went to the beach once only at Salt Rock. People braaied in the parking lot and was drinking and made a noise.
