Accommodation near Mapoch Ndebele Cultural Village
The Mapoch Ndebele Cultural Village is located 40 kms North West of Pretoria in Klipgat. The village was not built as a tourist attraction, but is a thriving Ndebele village, welcoming of all outsiders.
A visit grants you an interactive, 1-hour walking tour with a local villager. On the tour you'll be given a first hand account as to the origins of the Ndebele people, including legendary tales of war heroes and how daily rituals have come into being. You'll also see the sights of traditional wall paintings, art and bead work.
If you're wanting to have the full Ndebele living experience, the bicycle tour will take you around the entire village which includes pit stops at the local pre-school, church, shebeen and a village home Extend your visit a little longer with an overnight stay at the community-run lodge, where you'll be provided with basic, yet comfortable amenities. Traditional meals can be tasted, but bookings have to be made in advance.
