Middelburg is a small town centrally located in Mpumalanga province. As a result it is surrounded by a host of popular tourist attractions like the Kruger National Park, the Blyde River Canyon and the historic mining town of Pilgrim’s Rest, all lying within 250 kilometres of the town. The Middleburg Country Club is found just outside the small town.
The country club was originally built in 1903, after the Anglo Boer War by the Imperial British troops. However, when the town began to expand its layout was reorganised and the club was forced to move. It was rebuilt in 1967 and combined with the squash and bowling clubs. Unfortunately a fire burnt it to the ground and thus the club was rebuilt yet again in 1982.
These days the club offers patrons an 18-hole golf course, complete with pro-shop and ancillary services like a driving range, bowling greens, squash courts and tennis courts too. There is also a swimming pool which is extremely popular in Mpumalanga’s hot humid summers, as well as a children’s playground.
The clubhouse offers a restaurant and well-outfitted bar, with a veranda which looks out over the 18th green on the golf course – a tranquil scene by anyone’s standards. Within the bar area there are pool tables and dart boards. A smart-casual dress code is to be acknowledged by all who frequent the bar.
The Middelburg Country Club also offers numerous function venues which can be decorated and catered according to your needs.
