You will find the Mooi River Country Club on the outskirts of a small farming town of the same name. Mooi River, which means, ‘beautiful river’, is a farming community whose efforts are centred on equine, dairy and cattle farming. Furthermore, the town benefits from tourism, owing to its location in the heart of the well-trodden Midlands Meander, a tourist route which winds its way through the KwaZulu Natal Midlands.
The Midlands, as the area is known for short, are to be found just outside Pietermaritzburg, about 80 kilometres from Durban. It is a lush area characterised by green rolling hills, mist belt vegetation and farmlands in the foothills of the Drakensberg Mountains. This is the backdrop against which the Mooi River Country Club is set.
The country club, apart from boasting a spectacular setting in the heart of the midlands, is also one of the friendliest places you’re likely to chance upon. Visitors are welcomed with open arms and are invited to kick back and socialise or partake in one of the sporting activities offered by the club.
The sporting facilities here include 2 bowling greens, tennis courts, spinning and a golf course. Golfers will be impressed by the 11-hole course, which is as lush and green as the surrounding hills. It is dotted with trees, enhancing the bucolic feel of the area. Perhaps the best part is that it is particularly social. The local golfers are always happy to welcome a new face on the green and there are regular social competitions held on Thursdays and Saturdays.
Once your game is over, you can head back to the bar or restaurant (which offers breakfast, lunch and dinner) for a chat.
The club also offers function facilities complete with catering and there is children’s playground too.
