The Houses of Parliament are situated in Cape Town city Centre. Although Pretoria the official capital city of South Africa, Cape Town is the legislative capital.
The Parliament building itself, which also houses the Library of Parliament, is beautiful, with its central dome and Corinthian porticos and pavilions.
The building consists of three main sections, with the original building completed in 1884,later editions added in the 1920s, and again in the 1980s.The newest addition currently houses the National Assembly, and the original building houses the National Council of Provinces.
It’s common to encounter Members of Parliament in the coffee shops and restaurants in the surrounding area and journalists often scout the area for news.
It is possible to visit the Houses of Parliament and experience the following:
