Silver Lakes is a residential golf estate in Pretoria, the de facto capital of South Africa, and Gauteng’s second largest city. In 2013 the golf estate celebrates a decade of existence. It is located in the far eastern part of the city in the Lynnwood area. It has easy access to the N1 highway, which lies to Silver Lakes’ west.
The Silver Lakes Golf Estate is very proud of its status as the first of its kind in South Africa, and to this day it is touted as the most secure residential estate in the country. As you can imagine, this offers residents and visitors alike peace of mind and ensures that those who pass through feel relaxed and happy.
The estate offers plenty to do, one of the attractions when choosing accommodation here. It is a fair distance from the bustle of central Pretoria and offers a lifestyle almost entirely opposite to that of the more central suburbs.
The 18-hole golf course was designed by Peter Matkowich and is a decidedly calming influence on the area, thanks to its smooth, well-kept fairways and the numerous lakes and natural dams which punctuate the course. These same lakes are what inspired the estate’s name, Silver Lakes, because around dusk, the light hits them just so, giving them a silvery hue.
Apart from golf, activities on the estate include squash, tennis or social gatherings at the golf club house restaurant or intimate bar. Perhaps the cherry on the top though is the nature reserve on the property, which is home to numerous antelope species as well as other small mammals.
