The Springs Country Club is a golfing establishment on Gauteng’s East Rand. It is named after the town in which it is located, that is, Springs. The town of Springs is one of many towns on the East Rand which developed as a mining town in the early 1900’s, primarily focused on coal and gold mining. It was later incorporated into municipality of the greater city of Johannesburg.
The country club and golf course establishment came about soon after the initial development of the town and in all likelihood was one of the main forms of entertainment for the early Springs residents. The golf course was built in 1937.
The country club offers many of the same facilities that you would find in any country club the world over. The focal point of the club is without a doubt the golf course. The course is a full-length 18-hole course which covers a distance of 6352 metres. It is a parklands course, minus the abundance of trees found on a typical parklands course. The reason being that Springs is located on the Highveld, a region in the interior of South Africa better known for extensive grasslands than forests.
The golfing facilities offered by the club include a pro-shop where you can hire equipment like clubs, trolleys and buggies as well as arrange for a caddie. There is a driving range and putting green for practising.
The Springs Country Club also boasts squash courts and other sporting and social facilities like the club house which looks out across the golf course. There is a licensed bar, a halfway house serving light meals and quick snacks and a restaurant which is open for lunch and dinner. There are also conference facilities for hire.
The club is open 7 days a week and visitors are always welcome.
