Tweespruit Golf Club is located in the small town of the same name. The town of Tweespruit is situated in the Free State, one of South Africa's flattest provinces. The town is very small, so it follows that the golf club is quite small too, however, although the facilities are basic, they are well-maintained.
The town, which is in the heart of dairy-farming country, is located just off the N8 freeway between Bloemfontein and Ladybrand, the border town with Lesotho. It is 27 kilometres from Thaba Nchu and 47 kilometres from Hobhouse. The town developed on an experimental dairy farm which itself was set up on an old British Boer War settlement, which lay at the confluence of two streams. This is where the name of the town (and the golf course) originates from, as tweespruit means 'two streams' in Afrikaans.
The Tweespruit Golf Club boasts a 9-hole course, surrounded by the flat farmlands so typical of the area. In the near-distance the towering forms of the Maluti Mountains (which form the physical barrier between South Africa and Lesotho) can be seen clearly, providing a breath-taking backdrop. Luckily the air there is actually fresh!
The golf club is open 7 days a week and visitors are more than welcome to play on the parkland course. For those in need of a bit of practise there is a putting green and driving range, and a pro is on site to provide advice. Golf clubs are available for rent and you can hire a caddy to help you out too.
