The Underberg
Country Club, home to a small, but pleasant golf course, is located in Underberg. This is an idyllic farming town
located in the foothills of the Southern
Drakensberg Mountains. There are fewer locations more dramatic, and this
makes for a wonderful golfing experience.
The golf
course was designed by the Underberg
Country Club members in 1974, giving it a uniquely communal and welcoming
air. It is a 9-hole course with a
par rating of 72 and is always pleasant to play on due to its well-maintained
greens.
Although
the golf course is 9 holes it can be played alternatively for a full 18-hole
game. If you decide on a full, 18-hole game, you can pause for a snack at the
club’s halfway house, which serves
refreshments and light meals. It is also a nice place to hang out and socialise
after a game. Better yet, the clubhouse is equipped with a bar for celebratory drinks after the game as well as pre-drinks
before dinner at the restaurant.
There are banqueting facilities available at the club as well as conferencing facilities.
The club has
golf carts and pull trolleys for hire
to make manoeuvring around the course easier. Caddies can also be organised if you prefer. The dress code for the greens is smart casual
and all types of spikes are permitted on the course although soft spikes are
preferable.
Underberg
Golf Club is a relaxed place with plenty of facilities and a nice course. The
cherry on the top though is the wealth
of bird life, including some rarely-seen species, thanks to its location.
The club is
open on Mondays and is open to visitors every day.
