Accommodation near Vaal University of Technology

The Vaal University of Technology (VUT) is one of the largest of its kind in South Africa. Its main campus is located in southern Gauteng, Vanderbijlpark to be precise, one of the major industrial towns of the area. The university is located close to a belt of petrochemical, telecommunications and engineering businesses among others, in other words, appropriately positioned near some dynamic and interesting technological developments.

The institution was established in 1966 as The College for Advanced Technical Education. It has been renamed a number of times since then and had numerous renovations to get it where it is today. In 2004, during the transformation of the higher education sector in South Africa, it acquired the name it has today, and while the main campus is still Vanderbijlpark, there are satellite campuses of VUT in Secunda, Kempton Park and Upington in the Northern Cape.

The Vaal University of Technology enrols approximately 21 000 students every year, a far cry from the 189 who first studied there in 1966! There are over 300 staff members who teach students, mainly in English, across the university’s 4 faculties. Applied and Computer Science, Engineering and Technology, Humanities, and Management Sciences are the VUT faculties and between them roughly 300 programs are offered to students.

Another of the university’s claims to fame is that it is one of the largest residential universities in South Africa and believe it or not, there is a lot more to it than strict academics. While there are excellent facilities like laboratories, auditoriums and lecture halls which facilitate learning and research there is also an important emphasis put on arts, culture, sport and other recreational activities so that students are promised an well-rounded university experience.

Vereeniging
Very quiet and peaceful area, will definitely go back.

Vereeniging
Was visiting numerous people and exploring. I took note that driving around could be stressful as roads, in general, are neglected and in need of major repairs in a lot of areas.

Vereeniging
Vereeniging is becoming more and more delapidated, it's a shame it used to be such a beautiful town. But the accommodation was very nice compared to others.

Much is on offer to the Visitor to Vereeniging. The Sports event we attended was well organised and Vereeniging offered all we required for a most enjoyable experience.

Vereeniging
Time spent in Vereeniging was too short, cant really give feedback. What really caught my eye was the cleanliness of the town.
