Arcadia Logement
The suburb of Arcadia is one Pretoria’s most central neighbourhoods and is well-connected to transport routes like the N4 and N1. Its location makes access to the central business district as well as sites further afield convenient, putting it in high demand as bases for travelling businesspeople and tourists alike. It borders Pretoria Central, which it to the west of Arcadia.
Its proximity to Pretoria Central, one of the oldest parts of the city, makes it easy to guess that Arcadia is also an old part of town. As such, it is full of character with old buildings, interesting architecture and memorial monuments aplenty. In fact, Arcadia is known for its historical buildings, as well as for the many embassies and hotels which make up the area. The colourful jacaranda trees for which Pretoria is so well known (it’s often known locally as ‘The Jacaranda City’), are prolific in Arcadia too, making it a pretty place to spend your time.
Park Street is the main thoroughfare in the suburb and is home to some Arcadia’s most notable attractions. Among them are the Gerard Moerdyk Restaurant, the Pretoria Art Museum and Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
Gerard Moerdyk is quite a well-known name in Pretoria. It belongs to the architect who was responsible for the famous Voortrekker Monument. One of his buildings, constructed in 1920, is now a famous restaurant on Park Street, serving up traditional African Colonial dishes.
The Pretoria Art Museum is housed in a mid-century modernist building and specialises in contemporary and historical South African pieces. On a different note, the Loftus Versfeld Stadium has seen many an emotional rugby and soccer game. These are just some of the places for you to explore when you visit Pretoria and specifically, Arcadia.
