Bonnievale Logement
While quaint and picturesque, Bonnievale is not as well-known as the other towns that lie in the Breede Valley. The reason for this, many have discerned, is that it is entirely bypassed by Route 62 – the longest wine route in the world. Being located in the shadow of the Langeberg Mountains to the North-East, it is a small wonder why it’s considered the region’s hidden gem. It has been dubbed as the valley’s best kept secret as it boasts scenic vistas of the sprawling Langeberg Mountains; produces some quality wines and is the home base for South Africa’s leading cheese manufacturer, Parmalat.
Unbeknownst to many is that the town is referred to as the ‘Valley of Wine and Cheese’. In the area, there are four wine estates, two private wine producers and a couple of co-operative wine cellars. Connoisseurs will enjoy the eclectic assortment of varietals – where old vintages, as well as a new generation of boutique wines, can be sampled. As wine tourism is central to the economy, farmers will gladly show visitors around their property, giving one informative tidbits about the wines that are harvested and the history of their farms.
There are two cheese factories based in Bonnievale – Mooivallei Suiwel and Parmalat. Cheese-lovers and individuals who enjoy their share of dairy products will be familiar with the name brand ‘Parmalat’. For three years running, the dairy and food corporation has won the title of ‘cheese manufacturer of the year’.
If you don’t have enough time to wonder through the town but are looking to stock up on your wine collection, take a quick pit stop at the Von Wijngarten Wine Boutiek. Here you will find all of the wines produce in Bonnievale. If wine is not what you’re looking for, however, ask the owners about their town-famous ‘Tim Jan’. Considered a ‘wonder juice’ by the locals, this homemade aloe and grape juice is said to cure a wide range of bodily ailments – from aches and pains to sniffles.
If you’ve overindulged in wine-drinking and cheese-nibbling, make your way to De Ouwe Werf Market for a quick break. This weekly market provides you with all the usual artisanal wares you can think of, include fresh bread and rolls, pastries and freshly brewed coffees. You can also peruse through and purchase various non-edible wares, including antiques and hand-made crafts.

Firstly I am over the moon for sure as this is quite a surprise winning such a lucrative prize - and not the reason what the accommodation was actually booked for. I find Sleeping Out has a very nice variety of accommodations to choose from and a very user friendly site to work with. So well done team Sleeping Out.

Bonnievale
Bonnievale is a Dorpie that I can visit only to experience the other side of city life - but would not be able to make it a permanent place to settle down in.
Will be back next year same time.

First visit to Bonnievale - romantically situated among the vineyards, it feels like a hometown visit.

Bonnievale
Bonnievale is just another small town and like most small towns away from the City they present a different culture. I've been to Bonnievale some 15 years ago and nothing much has changed that I can think of. I can say that the people are quite friendly. Visitors from abroad could find the town and it's outskirts very interesting.

Such a cute little town. This was our first visit there, wish we could have spent more time exploring and visiting all the different places.
