Bronkhorstspruit Verblyf

Bronkhorstspruit is a small town which is part of Greater Pretoria in Gauteng. Its name may be a little awkward to pronounce for those unaccustomed mouths, but it’s a nice place to stop over or spend a bit of time. You’ll find it 50 kilometres to the east of Pretoria, South Africa’s de facto capital, on the boundary between the Gauteng and Mpumalanga provinces.

Bronkhorstspruit first came into being when its original settlers, the Voortrekkers, laid claim to the area in the middle to late 1800’s. They chose a spot on the highveld, next to the Bronkhorstspruit River, presumably for the water supply it offered. With more pressing thing to focus their time on than creative names, the settlement took on the same name as the river.

Bronkhorstspruit experiences a similar climate to Pretoria, with warm summers, punctuated by afternoon thunder storms and sunny winter days with icy nights. In the winter months of May to July, morning frost is a given. The sunny temperament of the area is just as well though as certain activities require good weather if they’re going to be enjoyable.

Playing a round of golf at the Bronkhorstspruit Golf Club for example is far more enjoyable when the sun is shining, and taking a visit to the Bronkhorstspruit Dam, where water activities like fishing and boating almost require warm weather.

Bronkhorstspruit is a multifaceted place offering more than sporting activities. For example, the Nan Hua Temple Complex is the South African headquarters for the Humanistic Buddhist Order. It is one of the largest Buddhist temples in the southern hemisphere.
