Cape St. Francis Accommodatie
Cape St Francis is an inviting seaside village on the western boundary of the Eastern Cape. It lies on the cusp of St Francis Bay and as such offers protected beaches and numerous activities for the sun seeking traveller. Cape St Francis is the eastern gateway to the famous Garden Route, a lush coastal route which is popular with locals and tourists alike for the forests, mountains, beaches and laid back vibe.
The town is small and has a rustic beach feel about it. It lies on a particularly rocky section of the coast, which has a reef stretching 1 kilometre into the ocean. Because of this reef, the Cape St Francis lighthouse was built in 1878 to warn ships of the danger. The lighthouse stands to this day, and at 27,5 metres, it is said to be the tallest mason structure in the Southern Africa.
Activities in Cape St Francis revolve around the outdoors, especially the beach and sea. The beach offers swimmers and sun-tanners hours of diversion, while surfers and body boarders are also well catered for at surf spots like Seal Point. For the curious there are a number of rock pools dotted along the coast which provide an insight into the tidal zone and the critters who live there.
The rocky nature of the coastline means that there are plenty of secluded, protected picnic spots, and it is highly recommended that you witness at least one sunset as the sun dips below the rocks and the horizon.
For a more adventurous experience, there are plenty of nature reserves nearby where you can hike and mountain bike to your heart’s content, and many of the Garden Route’s famed adrenaline activities are easily accessible too.
