Carolina Logement
Carolina is a small town located on the Johannesburg to Swaziland route in the Mpumalanga province. It is situated in a landscape of grass and wetlands.
Carolina is a mixed-farming town as well as a small-scale coal mining and precious-stone mining town. However, Carolina is a true natural beauty. It has a lot to offer nature lovers, dotted with sparkling rivers, lakes, green hills and trees.
Within the vicinity of Carolina is the captivating Komati Gorge and the accompanying Komati River. Here, one will find a copious amount of beautiful birds any bird lover would be glad to spot.
The Komati Gorge area has plenty of opportunities for enjoying the outdoors, with picnic sites and swimming spots, hiking trails and good fishing. You can also take small boats out onto the river.
To the north west of Carolina, there is the enthralling Nooitgedacht Dam Nature Reserve. Home to nearly 200 different species of birds, this vibrant nature reserve is great for bird watching. There are also several horseback adventures as well as hiking adventures to be had.
Other than its astounding beauty, Carolina also has significant history and culture to share. When Carolina was first established in 1883, it was named after the wife of its pioneer, Cornelius Coetzee. It was an overnight town for wagon trains en route to the popular gold mines of Kaap Valley. The town was flattened during the Anglo Boer War and was later rebuilt.
Luckily some perfect examples of amazing sandstone architecture survived in its public buildings, which can still be viewed today. Carolina also has a few battlefields that can be visited as well as San rock paintings to be explored.
