Cintsa Verblyf

Cintsa, or Chintsa as it’s alternatively known, is a small beach settlement just outside of East London in the Eastern Cape. The distance is roughly 38 kilometres and the town can be reached in about 30 minutes. The beach town is notable as the so-called starting point of the Eastern Cape’s famous Wild Coast. In this respect, Cintsa offers the best of both worlds as the wild and beautiful wilderness is a stone’s throw away from the city and its reassuring infrastructure.

The Wild Coast is popular among adventure seekers, as not only is the landscape reflected in the name, providing endless, dare-devilish activities, but the rural isiXhosa villages dotted across the hills provide an eye-opening cultural experience for those who consider themselves discerning travellers.

Among the attractions in Cintsa are the long sandy stretches of beach, the tea-coloured river which enters the ocean just below the town, the lagoons, the forested dunes and the multitude of activities that these landscapes enable. Surfing, for example, is a particularly popular past time for both Cintsa visitors and locals, not least because the Indian Ocean is deliriously warm. One can also partake in a mountain biking tour which takes you up over the hills behind the town through a number of small isiXhosa villages and back along the beach.

The beach is a major point of interest, and the mild weather combined with soft clean sand and temperate waters makes it the perfect location for basking in the sun with a good book. Fishing and horse-riding are other optional activities for the outdoorsman, and when the sun starts to set, there are a number of charmingly rustic bars and-restaurants where a sundowner and snacks can be enjoyed  A stay inCintsa is geared toward guests on a budget. There are a number of self-catering establishments. For those who like the taste of the higher life, semi-luxury hotels can be found in the area.
