Die Wilgers is an upmarket suburb in Pretoria, South Africa’s de facto capital and one of the largest cities in Gauteng. The suburb, which is also known as De Wilgers, lies in a prestigious and much-coveted part of the city. It is surrounded by wealthy suburbs like Faerie Glen, Lynwood and Menlyn.
Die Wilgers itself, as well as the surrounding areas, is characterised by its wide-streets, abundance of trees and smart houses. It has a tranquil and thoroughly suburban ambience, which might be just what you need!
The neighbourhood is located to the east of Pretoria’s central business district and is just south of the N4 highway. Its proximity to the centre and also to the major transport route makes it an attractive choice for travellers of all persuasions, from businesspeople to leisure travellers. The centre, after all is home to many of Pretoria’s business head-quarters as well as tourist attractions such as the Union Buildings.
Die Wilgers is fairly central itself, which of course also makes it an appealing choice for visitors. Hatfield, Pretoria’s throbbing nightlife and restaurant hub is round the metaphorical corner and on the opposite end of the scale some of Pretoria’s most attractive green spaces are a skip hop and a jump away. The Pretoria National Botanical Garden is located just north of Die Wilgers, and is a wonderfully serene place where one can wander between the flower beds and lawns, spotting birds if the whim takes you.
The Faerie Glen Nature Reserve is in neighbouring Faerie Glen and is home to numerous mammals, birds and pretty scenery. It is a great place to catch some fresh air.
